Flight Dreams

Inspired by the story of Ken Barnes, an outstanding Canadian who loved to draw and dreamed of flying. In his early years, he sketched images of planes in the margins of his school books. As an adolescent, he studied drawing with Arthur Lismer, a member of the Group of Seven, at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Combining his interest in flight and his desire to draw, Ken Barnes became an aeronautical designer. Among his most notable projects was work on the Avro Arrow, a supersonic jet fighter that was slated to become the most powerful plane in the world. The Avro Arrow was abruptly cancelled, however, on February 20, 1959.

Using Ken Barnes and his dream of flying as a point of departure, Flight Dreams explores the idea of flight and the far-reaching possibilities of human imagination, innovation and creativity, providing a skywards-journey that will empower us all to dream.
